Sister Cities International

Founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Sister Cities International (SCI) serves as the national membership organization for individual sister cities, counties, and states across the United States. Sister Cities International is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between U.S. and international communities, promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time.  This network unites thousands of citizen diplomats, educators, political and business leaders, youth, and volunteers in programs in 136 countries across 6 continents.

Over its 56 year history, Sister Cities International has supported the work of its members and explored new ways to promote citizen diplomacy worldwide.  In its second fifty years, Sister Cities International is finding new ways citizen diplomacy can positively impact our nation’s foreign relations—going beyond traditional programs like cultural and academic exchanges and exploring how individual citizens and cities can build economic partnerships and support developing communities.

Sister Cities International empowers individual citizens to become diplomats and represent their community and their country in new and meaningful ways.

Project Earth – Sister Cities International:
Sister Cities International is excited to announce a new collaboration with Project Earth – “The Project Earth – Sister Cities International Challenge” – to engage the next generation of citizen diplomats through environmental and renewable energy projects. Utilizing the Project Earth online resources and sharing platform and the Sister Cities International network of students, teachers and schools, this challenge will allow young people to work with fellow students in their sister cities to implement sustainable projects focused on mutual environmental problems.
