CLEANING UP OUR ACT AT LION'S POINT
The Environmental Club at International School Aamby has taken up an exciting initiative to clean up and conserve the environment at Lion’s Point, a favourite tourist spot. Lion’s Point has the most spectacular view but unfortunately the place is turning into a sea of garbage with wrappers, bottles and the worst enemy – the plastic cups that was lying everywhere.
The Environmental Club surveyed the place and decided to make a difference by cleaning up Lion’s Point. We conducted awareness campaign to educate the shopkeepers about the impact of plastic on the environment. Teachers and students participated enthusiastically in the Clean Up drive with an aim of cleaning up and contributing a little to our community. It was for the first time most of the students participated in a cleanup drive. We placed new dustbins and encouraged the shopkeepers to use them effectively. After few hours of hard work, we could see our work paying off as some of the local people volunteered to help us. It was one of our major achievements when the local shopkeepers realised the need of keeping Lion’s Point clean. Our small effort has definitely made a big impact locally and we have realised our moral responsibilities towards our environment.
We pledge to continue our cleaning act at Lion's Point to save our environment and help in restoring the natural beauty of the place.
Charity begins at home and we, at ISA have made an attempt to put all these preaching into practice by organising a range of enjoyable programmes which are also great learning experience for the students. Some of our activities include:
Recycling Club: Creating awareness on the importance of reusing and recycling papers, conservation of electricity and encouraging students to switch off lights and air conditioners before leaving classrooms. Every classroom has a recycling box put up by the club and the money raised from selling these papers is used to support our initiative at Lion’s Point.
Recycling Fashion Show using recycled materials to make the most awsome and creative dresses with a message of saving our environmnet!
Junk Band Concert
Environmental T-shirt designing contest
Awareness Campaign in local schools to educate children on keeping our surrounding clean.
Interviewing/Interaction with local people on envronmental issues.
Working collaboratively in celebrating important environmental occasions
