CLEANING UP OUR ACT AT LION'S POINT The Environmental Club at International School Aamby has taken up an exciting initiative to clean up and conserve the environment at Lion’s Point, a favourite tourist spot. Lion’s Point has the most spectacular view but unfortunately the place is turning into a sea of garbage with wrappers, bottles and the worst enemy – the plastic cups that was lying everywhere. ¨Saving Yasuni ¨is an educational project addressed to world wide schools to promote environmental conservation awareness. This project is being elaborated by eighteen students in total, from second and fourth grade and two Science teachers, from Tomas Moro School in Quito-Ecuador. This project highlights the importance of preserving Yasuni National Park intact by leaving petroleum underground and encouraging the use of renewable energy. The aim of the project is to raise creative, respectful, understanding and sensitive individuals who make use of nature appropriately and consciously. It is to give students a chance to see what a village life is and what nature does for the living species. These individuals will thereby be aware of nature's importance in life and strive to protect the balance of it by caring, recycling and protecting. We have an ecology house in our school in which the lessons and projects take place. Students bring their ecology bags to the lessons and attend this house showing their ecology passports. Green Cross Belarus runs the annual In My Homeland Children’s and Youth Drawing Contest, which encourages children and youth worldwide to depict their homeland. The submissions are judged by a jury made up of professional artists, art teachers and representatives of art magazines from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland and other countries with entries being awarded first, second and third degree diplomas in seven (7) age groups. The grade 7 students of the International School of Ulaanbaatar will study the differences in the 6 main types of plastics used in everyday packaging and products. They are focusing on the plastic of plastic bags and how the bags impact our environment. The students will run a campaign to develop awareness and educate the community on the hazards of plastic bags.
